I have been playing around in the studio incorporating faces into my paintings lately. I adore painting landscapes, however I sometimes feel that it is difficult to express my deeper feelings within a landscape painting. Landscapes are serene, beautiful, colourful and calming but sometimes I feel like I have more to say.

I've been wanting to explore some more emotive work for a while and adding in a figurative element seemed like the most obvious way of expressing myself.  

It has been a challenge and showing this work has made me feel quite vulnerable but I believe stepping out of your comfort zone is the first step towards something better.  

Im not quite ready to discuss the deeper meaning behind these works just yet, partly because I don't really know exactly what I'm trying to express. For now they are magical experiments that I am quite happy with but they are also not quite what I had planed either. I am enjoying the process which is the important part.
